When you receive your NDIS plan, one of the first decisions you'll face is how to manage your funding. Here's a straightforward breakdown of your three options.
1. NDIA-Managed (Agency-Managed)
The NDIA manages your funding directly and pays your providers on your behalf. This is the simplest option โ you don't need to handle invoices or payments. However, you can only use registered NDIS providers.
โ Best for: People who prefer a hands-off approach and are happy using registered providers.
2. Plan-Managed
A plan manager handles your invoices and payments. You get more flexibility โ you can use both registered and unregistered providers. The plan manager takes care of the paperwork while you focus on your support.
โ Best for: People who want more provider choice without the admin burden.
3. Self-Managed
You take full control of your funding. You choose your providers, pay them directly, and keep records for the NDIA. Maximum flexibility and control, but requires more time and organisation.
โ Best for: People who want complete control and are comfortable managing finances.
Which option is right for you?
There's no wrong answer โ it depends on your preferences and how much flexibility you want. Many participants start with NDIA-managed and move to plan-managed or self-managed as they become more comfortable.
